We at the Old Town Guest House in Park City want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy 2009!

the Interconnect Tour with Deb

If you want to experience some of the best skiing in Utah, you should know about the Ski Utah Interconnect Tour.  Led by Old Town Inn’s own Deb Llovci and Pat Reddish, this 25 mile tour includes hitting four or six (depending on where you start) of Utah’s resorts in one day, skiing backcountry terrain that most locals never see.  The experience is one-of-a-kind and truly a must for anyone who loves a challenging ski adventure!  And it’s a tour you might want to go on several times as it’s always a new and awesome experience!  Skinet.com’s article featuring the Interconnect Tour says “Think of it as the ultimate winter weekend: fly in, ski four of the West’s marquee resorts and two of its soulful family spots, fly out with a shiny pin labeling you an official Interconnect conqueror.”

What’s Going On!

On Thursday, Dec. 4, an exciting new free concert series kicks off.  The Park City Free Winter Concerts are presented by The Canyons and will be on Thursday evenings at local club Harry O’s through the winter months.  Doors open at 7:30, concert runs from 8 to 10 p.m.  The first concert will be featuring Tim Wray and Fat Paw.  You can be sure that this event will continue to host amazing artists and bands, as Park City attracts the best in entertainment along with dining, comfort and, of course, outdoor activities!

Speaking of outdoor fun, the 17th annual Celebrity Skifest at Deer Valley is this weekend!  If you haven’t heard about this huge event, it’s a weekend of training, skiing, eating, dancing and entertainment with Celebrities from TV, Music and Film as well as Olympians.  All the funds raised are given to the environmentalist organization the Waterkeeper Alliance and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team.  It’s a lot of exciting fun that is benefiting athletes and helping keep our planet clean and our water safe!  You can check out pictures from last year’s event at: http://www.dvskifest.com/main.html.

Whenever you come visit us at Old Town Guest House, there’s lots to do and see, so come enjoy yourself! Have some great food (any ethnicity your little mouth desires), see a band you love, smell the pine-scented mountain air and see the sun shining off the snowy peaks while you glide down the mountain!

We are green!

We’re proud to share with you the news that Old Town Guest House is now a member of the Green Hotel Association.  This organization is made up of members who are completely committed to practices and tactics that help PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT!  The ideas behind being a member of Green Hotels aren’t new to us.  We’ve always been passionate about being responsible and kind to our planet and have been part of Leave No Trace for a long time as well.

A few of the things that we do to be truly green at Old Town Guest House are offsetting electricity use by purchasing wind power credits, using incandescent bulbs, cooking seasonally, expansive recycling and showing our guests how to enjoy the outdoors with as little impact as possible.

When you stay at our Inn you can feel great about going on a vacation and not impacting the environment.  So, come on out and have some fun and planet-friendly R&R!

Sundance Film Festival– Independent Film in Park City

If you’ve never been in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival, you’re missing out!   The amazing snow, mountains and abundance of outdoor activities aren’t the only thing Park City has to appreciate.  The 2009 Festival is coming up January 15-25.  The Sundance Institute is a non-profit organization that aims to discover and develop independent artists and audiences of Independent film.  The festival, started in 1981 by Robert Redford and a group of his friends and colleagues fills Park City each year with new films, music, art, film makers and celebrities from around the world!  Sundance is an internationally renowned event that introduces the world to the newest and best in Independent film and theatre.

The collections of short films are a favorite at the festival each year, with something for everyone to enjoy and if you have time to really dig in and see several festival films, you’ll love the unique approaches and the opportunity to listen to the film-makers discuss their work.  After the films, head to main street for some of the hottest musical acts of the year.  And if you’re looking to brush shoulders with your favorite film star, Sundance is the place to be!  Check out http://www.sundance.org for more information.

The Best Snow on Earth is just minutes away from the Inn!

Park City is one of the top rated Ski & Snowboard destinations in the world.  With three world-class resorts (Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons Resort) within just miles of each other, you can spend an entire week skiing, but not repeat the same run twice.  Coming down the black diamonds knee deep in powder or cruising down the wide-groomed winding trails it just doesn’t get any better than this!  Over fifty ways up the slopes in gondolas, express lifts and chairlifts get you to hundreds of runs, beginner to expert.

Utah is known for its light and fluffy powder snow which comes from the perfect combination of cold temperature, dry air and moisture from the Great Salt Lake.  That’s why Utah’s snow is lighter and softer than any other and each year, Park City gets over 400 inches of this snow… the best snow anywhere!

Park City has it all in terrain parks too, whether you’re looking for jumps, quarter pipes, manny pads, rails, c-boxes, rainbow boxes, half pipes, or fun boxes.  Some parks have outdoor sound systems enhancing the atmosphere.  You can catch big air or learn how to grind the rails.  Whether you are just starting out or you are an old-hand, Park City has a terrain park that will challenge you and Old Town Guest House Inn is the perfect place to start off from in the morning and come back and relax in the evening.

The Holidays are Coming!

Park City is gearing up for Holiday Season 2008 so we thought we’d tempt your appetite by mentioning a few upcoming events that will be coming up soon.

The Egyptian Theatre, a lovely and historic theater in the midst of Main Street in Park City, will be showing The Music Man Nov.21st – Jan 3rd.  A classical musical featuring a traveling con-man and a lonely piano teacher is charming and uplifting.  A great way to spend a holiday afternoon or evening!
December 19th through January 4th the Gallery MAR Miniature Show presents it’s new miniature works for the holiday season, in all styles and media for all tastes and features local artists.  Admission is free and it’s bound to have something to interest everyone!

Park City Mountain Resort’s Traditional Holiday Celebration and Torchlight Parade is on December 24th and is a must for anyone in town for Christmas!

And just for fun if you’d like to see footage of Park City right now check out these webcams.
